Loren Combs - Senior, Softball, Early Childhood and Special Education major
Q & A with Dr. Gary-3/4/16
Q: What is your favorite class experience/ professor experience at Wittenberg?
A: I am an education major so thus far my favorite class I have taken was my science methods course with Mrs. McCurdy, who was an adjunct at the time. We learned so many different strategies and approaches to make science fun and hands-on in the classroom. Doing so we got the opportunity to relive elementary and perform many different science experiments. Overall the education program does a phenomenal job of getting you into the field right away whether it’s tutoring or student teaching. The field experience is a great learning experience for a variety of reasons. I’ve come to know myself better as a person and how I can approach different lessons in the best way possible for my students to learn.
Q: Why do you enjoy being a Wittenberg Tiger?
A: I enjoy being a Wittenberg Tiger because the atmosphere of Wittenberg just makes you feel like family. The athletic program here at Witt sets up a family welcoming environment. My team enjoys going to other sporting events and supporting others, and vice versa. It’s the people here at Wittenberg that really has made my college experience the best.
Q: To you, what does it mean to Tiger Up?
A: To me it means all in. You have to give everything your all, no backing down. You follow through and do the best you can. If you fail, just Tiger Up and keeping pushing through because here at Witt we have the support to help push us to be the best we can and we Tiger Up!
Q: What is the most valuable thing you have learned through your sport that is applicable to life?
A: I have learned throughout my time as a softball player here at Witt that if you make a mistake, there’s nothing you can do about it now. What’s done is done and you have to be prepared for the “Next Pitch.” I won’t let my mistakes snow ball in life. I may make a mistake, learn from it and move on.
Q: What do you see yourself doing after Witt?
A: I see myself being either a kindergarten or first grade teach in Cincinnati, Oh. I’ve always wanted to teach, but throughout my experiences here at Witt I have come to love the little ones.
Q: After your time at Wittenberg, how will you pass the light on to others?
A: I will be passing the light on to others by teaching. I am very passionate about teaching and hope to impact each and every child’s life when they walk through my classroom door.
