Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's basketball team breezed by the Gators of Allegheny College, 62-34 from Pam Evans Smith Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers finished with a trio scoring in double figures on the day. Leading the scoring effort on the afternoon was Korynne Berner with 11 points, knocking down all four of her attempts from the floor and converting on three attempts from the charity stripe. Wittenberg moves to 14-8 on the season and 8-5 in NCAC action as the backstretch of the season begins to heat up.
Wittenberg opened the game converting on 37 percent of the looks from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc in the first half. The Red and White outscored the Gators 13-4 through the first quarter of action, not allowing the first Allegheny basket to fall until just under five minutes remaining in the quarter. After Berner headed up the scoring column at the end of the first quarter with four points. Alex Kiess tallied seven points during the second quarter on 3 of 5 shooting, heading into the intermission. Wittenberg came out of the break looking to extend the lead over Allegheny, outscoring the Gators 17-8 in the third quarter. Riley Culver tallied 6 of her 10 total points in the third quarter, converting on all three attempts from the floor and pulling down two rebounds. Berner closed out the game, adding five points to her total in the fourth quarter.
Who Stood Out
Kiess finished with 10 points, shooting 4 for 10 from the floor with two assists and a rebound. Culver pulled down six rebounds, knocking down 4 of 7 from the floor and coming up with two steals. Kristie Kalis reeled in six rebounds with seven points and an assist. McKenna Baker provided seven points and Sydney Mayle added six points off the bench for the Red and White.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 traveling to Ohio Wesleyan for a 7:00 PM tip-off against the Battling Bishops in an NCAC showdown.
