MISSION

Wittenberg's Sports Medicine Department is committed to developing the student-athlete through success and competition to achieve excellence in life and sport.

OBJECTIVES

Wittenberg University Sports Medicine is dedicated to providing the best possible medical care for student-athlete injuries and illnesses by:

  • Providing each student-athlete with quality academic, competitive, leadership and social experiences to build a sense of responsibility and foster an approach for both lifelong learning and fitness.
  • Keeping the well-being of our student-athletes at the core of every decision.
  • Celebrating the winning traditions that have developed throughout the proud history of Wittenberg University.

CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS (ATCs)

Certified Athletic Trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled, allied health care professionals that have been part of the American Medical Association’s  Health Professions Career and Education Directory for more than a decade.

The practice of athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination and assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, subacute, and chronic neuromusculoskeletal conditions and certain medical conditions in order to minimize subsequent impairments, functional limitations, disability, and societal limitations.

Athletic trainers are the only health care professionals whose expertise in prevention ranges from minor sprains to catastrophic head and neck injuries and from minor illnesses to exertional heat syndrome. Athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals, and are under the allied health professions category as defined by Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In addition, Wittenberg partners with Excel Sports Medicine to provide on-site physical therapy, treatment and rehabilitation services. The Excel Sports Medicine at Wittenberg team is led by two experienced, licensed physical therapists, as well as a Certified Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach. On Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, the Wittenberg athletic training room was dedicated as the Kremchek Family Athletic Training Facility in recognition of longtime team orthopedist Dr. Timothy Kremchek, Wittenberg class of 1981, and his leading efforts to completely renovate and modernize the facility.
