Madi Wolters Sits Down For Q & A With Dr. Gary

Each week during the school year, Wittenberg University Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams interviews a Tiger student-athlete for a special website feature called "Q&A with Dr. Gary."

Special thanks to Andy Elliot '19 for his hard work putting the feature together this week.

Q & A with Dr. Gary, Featuring Madi Wolters, Women's Golf

Q: How would you describe the athletic culture/environment at Wittenberg?

A: I would describe the athletic culture at Wittenberg as being flexible and conducive to continuing your classroom studies. With this positive atmosphere, it allows me to succeed on and off the golf course.

Q: What is your most memorable sports moment at Witt?

A: My most memorable sports moment at Witt was at the NCAA tournament in Houston, Texas my freshman year. On the last day of the tournament after I finished my round I watched Macy Hubbard, a senior on the team, putt for the last time as a Wittenberg golfer. I got to see how meaningful this was to her and hoped that would be me someday. She was a leader on the team and I still look up to her today. I will forever remember this moment.

Q: What made Wittenberg your choice as opposed to other schools?

A: I choose Wittenberg over other schools ultimately because of the successful women's golf program. I did not know I wanted to play golf in college until late in my senior year and I was lucky enough to get recruited by Coach Roope. Now that I am a junior I love Witt for more than just the golf program that I came here for.

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat on campus? (CDR, Post, etc.)

A: My favorite place to eat on campus is Post. I love their mozzarella sticks.

Q: what are you studying at Witt and why does it interest you?

A: I am studying Finance and Business management because I want to become a Financial Advisor. This interests me because my dad peaked my curiosity in stocks at a young age. I am now able to know what field interests me and enjoy developing my learning throughout college.

Q: If you could play any other sport, what would it be and why?

A: If I would play another sport I would play volleyball because I do not know very much about it but wish I knew more to enjoy playing and watching.

Q: Who is your favorite Wittenberg athlete and why?

A: My favorite Wittenberg athlete is Macy Hubbard because of her amazing work ethic on and off the golf course and time management skills when she was a student at Wittenberg. She is now a pro golfer and working on getting onto the LPGA Tour. With her skills and work ethic, she is someone who could become unstoppable.

Q: What does it mean to you to be at Wittenberg Tiger?

A: A Wittenberg tiger to me is someone who always brings their best attitude and effort to the team. They also support more than just their team but all athletics and grow into selfless leaders.

Q: What kind of music do you listen to before a game, tournament, etc. (Favorite artists, songs, albums)

A: I listen to a variety of music before tournament rounds sometimes I am in the mood for country but other times I want music that pumps me up before the round.

Q: How did you start in your sport?

A: I started playing golf because of my family. My dad started teaching my older brother at a young age, so I saw them grow to love the game. I have always looked at my brother as a role model. When I was younger I wanted to share the same interest as him, so I started playing golf hoping to be as successful as him.

Q: Who professionally is your favorite player in your sport?

A: My favorite professional player is Jordan Spieth.
