CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — After a promising 9-1 start to the 2012 season, the Wittenberg baseball team continued its mid-season struggles with a 12-6 loss at Thomas More.
The loss was Wittenberg's fifth straight and dropped the Tigers to 18-15 overall, heading into a crucial four-game weekend series at arch-rival Ohio Wesleyan. Thomas More improved to 19-10.
The Saints jumped on top immediately with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The Tigers trailed 12-2 before rallying for four runs over the final two innings. However, Wittenberg stranded nine runners in the game, including seven over the final five innings.
Offensively, Wittenberg banged out 11 hits, led by sophomore David Moore (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) with three hits in three plate appearances. Junior Grant Goodwin (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) and freshman Zac Wilson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton)finished with two hits apiece, freshman Aaron Patrick (Eldorado, Ohio/Tri-County North) contributed two RBIs and sophomore Brandon Jordan (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca)scored a pair.
