MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Wittenberg Baseball began its spring break trip on a winning note, grabbing a 5-1 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday, March 7, as part of the 2026 college baseball training sessions at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at Ebbets Field.
It was the third win in a row for the Tigers, who scored one run in each of the second, third, and eighth innings and two more in the seventh to add another mark in the win column. Wittenberg is now 5-3 on the season. It was the third loss in a row for Immaculata, now 1-3 overall. Wittenberg beat the Mighty Macs during last year's spring break trip, 23-5, and is now 3-0 in the all-time series against them.
Several players turned in a great game for Wittenberg. Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, PR / Franklin County) went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs, both on a single to center in the seventh inning. Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Quintin Applegate (Delaware, OH / Olentangy Berlin) was 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH / Olentangy Berlin) was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a walk. He scored in the second inning off a double to right center off the bat of Charlie Marando (Dublin, OH / Scioto). His RBI came in the third to score Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH / Ottawa Hills).
Getting the win on the mound for the Tigers was Wade Thewes (Parker, CO / Lutheran). In six innings of work, the righthander allowed one run on four hits, had three walks and seven strikeouts.
Next up, the Tigers will continue their spring break games, taking on St. Joseph's at 9 a.m. at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
