Wittenberg Explodes for 24 Hits in 25-2 Win Over St. Joseph's
Myrtle Beach, SC – The Wittenberg Tigers continued their strong early-season play, defeating St. Joseph's 25-2 in dominant fashion during the second game of their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. The victory marked Wittenberg's fourth consecutive win, as the Tigers controlled the game from the opening inning.
Wittenberg wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the first inning before adding three more in the second to quickly build a comfortable lead. The Tigers continued their steady offensive production throughout the contest, finishing with an impressive 24 hits as a team.
Leading the offensive surge was Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, PR / Franklin County), who delivered a massive performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run, three doubles, and seven RBI. Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH / Olentangy Berlin) also had a huge day offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI, driving in runs as the Tigers extended their lead inning by inning.
Landon Turner (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) was nearly unstoppable as well, going 5-for-6 with a home run, a double, and two RBI, while George Janzen (West Chester, OH / Roger Bacon) went 2-for-4 with a double and Wade Thewes (Parker, CO / Lutheran) finished 2-for-2.
On the mound, Andrew Rust (Dublin, OH / Coffman) delivered a dominant start for the Tigers, throwing six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four. The bullpen trio of Carson Sackenheim (Hamilton, OH / Ross), Grant Cline (Circleville, OH / Logan Elm) and Clark Metz (Westerville, OH / South) all contributed in relief to close out the game.
Defensively, Wittenberg backed its pitching staff with a clean game in the field, committing zero errors.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, March 10, against Bridgewater St. at 12:30 p.m.
