Tigers Extend Win Streak to Five With 14-1 Victory Over Bridgewater State
Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Wittenberg Tigers continued their strong stretch of play on their Spring Break trip, defeating Bridgewater State, 14-1, to secure their fifth consecutive victory.
After a quiet start offensively, the Tigers broke the game open in the fourth inning and never looked back. Wittenberg finished strong, highlighted by multiple multi-hit performances, timely power hitting, and a strong pitching performance.
Landon Turner (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) sparked the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, while Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH / Olentangy Berlin) went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run late in the game. Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) and Charlie Marando (Dublin, OH / Scioto) each added two hits, and Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, PR / Franklin County) contributed a two-run home run.
The Tigers recorded their first hit of the game in the fourth inning when Turner singled to start the rally. Rodriguez followed with a two-run home run to put Wittenberg on the board. Chilicki kept the momentum going with a single before Gladden capped the inning with an RBI double, extending the Tigers' lead.
Wittenberg continued to add on in the fifth inning. James MacAuley (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI / Grosse Point North) started it off with a single, and Chilicki delivered again with a base hit that brought home two runs.
The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth inning before putting the game out of reach in the eighth. The late rally was highlighted by Gladden's three-run home run, helping Wittenberg plate five runs in the inning.
On the mound, Mason Glen (Cincinnati, OH / Anderson) delivered a dominant outing to earn his first collegiate victory. Glen tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven. Zach Rust (Dublin, OH / Coffman) closed out the game with three innings in relief, allowing one hit and one unearned run while striking out four.
The Tigers finish up in Myrtle Beach tomorrow March 11th vs Cairn at 12:30 p.m.
