Tigers Roll Past Bluffton, 20-3
SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Wittenberg baseball team continued its offensive surge on Wednesday evening, cruising past Bluffton University in a 20-3 victory at Carleton Davidson Stadium.
Lucas Patrick (Delaware, OH / Olentangy Berlin) got the start for the Tigers and delivered a strong outing, working 3.1 innings while allowing just one hit as Wittenberg controlled the game early.
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH / Ottawa Hills) jumpstarted the scoring with an RBI double to right field, followed by an RBI double to left-center from Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy).
Wittenberg broke the game open in the fifth inning with a nine-run explosion. Nemunaitis led off the inning with a single to spark the rally, and Chilicki drove in another run with an RBI single.
Corbin Marshall (Doylestown, OH / Chippewa) and Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH / Olentangy Berlin) each added two-RBI singles as the Tigers kept the line moving with multiple RBI hits throughout the frame.
The Tigers added more power in the sixth inning as Marshall launched a home run, and Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, PR / Franklin County) delivered a three-RBI double to push the lead to 16-3.
Nemunaitis, Chilicki, and Marshall each finished with three hits to lead the offensive attack as Wittenberg's lineup stayed red-hot. With the win, the Tigers have now scored 10 or more runs in 16 of their 25 games this season.
Wittenberg returns to action Saturday as the Tigers host a doubleheader against Wooster, which will also feature senior recognition and alumni day.
