CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – The Wittenberg University baseball team traveled to Crawfordsville, Indiana on Wednesday for a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wabash and came away with a sweep, taking game one 4-3 and rolling to a 16-6 victory in game two.
Game 1 – Wittenberg 4, Wabash 3
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board in the opening inning as Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) tripled down the right field line to drive in Landon Turner (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe), giving Wittenberg an early 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, James MacAuley (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI / Grosse Point North) doubled to left field to score another run, extending the advantage to 2-0.
Wittenberg added insurance in the fifth inning with Chilicki continuing his big day at the plate, ripping an RBI double. Quintin Applegate (Delaware, OH / Olentangy Berlin) followed with an RBI single to push the Tigers ahead 4-1.
Wabash mounted a comeback attempt with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the deficit to one, but Wittenberg's bullpen held strong. Zach Rust (Dublin, OH / Coffman) came on in relief and shut the door, tossing scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth while striking out three to earn the save.
Mason Glen (Cincinnati, OH / Anderson) got the start for the Tigers and delivered 4.2 solid innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out four.
Chilicki finished game one a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, double, and two RBIs, while Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, PR / Franklin County) added three hits in the win.
Game 2 – Wittenberg 16, Wabash 6
Wittenberg's offense erupted in game two, beginning with a strong first inning. Applegate got the scoring started with an RBI single before Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH / Olentangy Berlin) delivered a two-run double to put the Tigers ahead early.
From there, Wittenberg kept the pressure on, posting two major scoring bursts with five runs in the fifth inning and four more in the seventh, pulling away for the 16-6 victory.
The Tigers recorded six doubles in the second game and added power at the plate as both Rodriguez and Gladden launched home runs.
Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH / Ottawa Hills) led the way offensively, going 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Gladden finished 3-for-4 with a double and home run, while Rodriguez collected two hits and drove in three runs.

Wittenberg returns home on Saturday, April 25, for a major ranked matchup against #1 Denison. The doubleheader will be a key factor in determining the No. 1 seed in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament.
