Five Tigers Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors
SPRINGFIELD, OH- Five Wittenberg student-athletes including Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH / Ottawa Hills), Andrew Rust (Dublin, OH / Coffman), Mikey Eickhoff (Akron, OH / St. Vincent-St. Mary), Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy), and Quintin Applegate (Delaware, OH / Olentangy Berlin) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division III Academic All-District Baseball Team for the 2026 season.
The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To earn CSC Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in class standing with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 while meeting athletic participation requirements.
In baseball, pitchers must have pitched at least 25 innings or appeared in at least 17 games, and non-pitchers must have competed in 90 percent or started at least 66 percent of the team's total games. Selected Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, Second-, and Third-Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 23.
Nemunaitis is a senior third baseman and biochemistry and molecular biology major with a 3.96 GPA. This season, he was named All-NCAC First Team and earned recognition as both a D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Region VII All-Region First team and a fourth and second team All-American. He led the team in batting average, going .451 at the dish, as he drove in 56 runs and led the team in total bases with 132.
Rust, a right-handed pitcher, is double major in both finance and data science with a 3.99 GPA. He was named All-NCAC Second Team for his performance this season. He was tied for the team lead in wins with seven, recorded an earned run average (ERA) of 3.32, and racked up 62.1 innings pitched in 13 appearances.
Eickoff, a left-handed pitcher for the Tigers, carries a 3.95 GPA as a finance and management double major. This season, he was tied for the team lead in appearances with 18 and led the Tigers in ERA at 2.94, the only pitcher with under a 3.00. In 33.2 innings, Eickoff only allowed 23 hits and held his opponents batting average to .192, the only Wittenberg pitcher this season to hold his opponents under .200.
Chilicki, who primarily played second base throughout the season, is a nursing major with a 3.68 GPA. After being named All-NCAC First Team, he went on to earn Region VII All-Region First Team from D3baseball.com, the ABCA, and ultimately earned First Team All-America honors from D3baseball.com. He was also named fourth team All-American by the ABCA. Chilicki was a top performer for the Tigers at the plate, finishing second in RBIs with 60. He turned in a batting average of .429, and was second in hits and third in home runs.
Applegate, a senior outfielder, is a cybersecurity major with a 3.73 GPA. At the conclusion of the regular season, he was selected to the All-NCAC Third Team. He played in and started 43 games for the Tigers, starting in all but one. He batted .374 this season and drove in 43 runs, while crossing the plate 40 times.
This season, the Tigers went 31-13 and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994 with several players earning All-America honors for the first time in 34 years. The Wittenberg baseball team also broke multiple team and individual records this season, breaking into the top 10 in multiple categories due to their success on the field.
