Tiger Student-Athletes Host Take A Kid To The Game Day Oct. 13
Wittenberg student-athletes will be raising money for Second Harvest Food Bank and Special Olympics during a tripleheader at Edwards-Maurer Field on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host Take a Kid to the Game Day on Saturday, Oct. 13. The theme of the 2012 event is "Tigers for Springfield."
Wittenberg's Take a Kid to the Game Day will be a day-long event in 2012, starting with the Tigers' football game against the University of Chicago, which is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. The festivities will continue during the women's soccer game against Ohio Wesleyan slated for 5 p.m. and the men's soccer game against Ohio Wesleyan that begins at 7:30 p.m. All three games take place at Edwards-Maurer Field.
Elementary and middle-school age children will be admitted free of charge in the company of a parent or guardian, who will be charged the reduced admission price of $5 with a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank or Special Olympics. That price of admission allows the child and his or her parent access to all three games during the day. SAAC members will be at the entrances during the games collecting for the charities and interacting with the children.
Take a Kid to the Game Day is an NCAA program started 17 years ago to provide member institutions with an opportunity for community outreach by introducing area youth to collegiate athletics programs. Adults are encouraged to take children to collegiate sporting events, inspiring them to pursue higher education opportunities and athletics.
