Wittenberg Partners With WIZE 1340-AM Again In 2013
For the third straight, Wittenberg football can be heard throughout the Miami Valley thanks to a partnership with WIZE 1340-AM.
Springfield, Ohio – For the third straight year, Wittenberg University football can be heard locally on the AM radio dial thanks to a partnership with WIZE 1340-AM, which extends the game broadcasts produced by the Tiger Sports Network onto local commercial radio airwaves throughout the 2013 football season.
The Tigers have won three of the last four North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships and enter the 2013 season with the most wins in NCAA Division III history. Wittenberg opens the 2013 season with a road trip to Butler University with a first kick scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.
All of the action can be heard locally on WIZE 1340-AM, in addition to around the world via the www.WittenbergTigers.com. Later this season, broadcasts will also be available on the FM radio dial when Wittenberg’s student-run radio station WUSO 89.1-FM returns to full functionality. The station is in the final stages of a complete renovation.
Scott Leo, WUSO advisor and the Voice of the Tigers for football and men’s basketball for nearly a decade, will handle play-by-play duties once again in 2013. Among several different professional pursuits, Leo serves as the director of broadcasting for the Columbus Clippers, the AAA minor league baseball affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Coverage of each football game begins with the “Tiger GameDay” pre-game show 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Each broadcast also includes a halftime interview segment titled “Inside Wittenberg,” featuring various university administrators and faculty members discussing academic programs and campus events, and a post-game show that includes interviews with student-athletes and coaches.
The Tiger Sports Network will also provide radio broadcasts for all men’s and women’s basketball games again during the 2013-14 school year. The Tiger basketball teams can be heard locally on WUSO 89.1-FM and throughout the world via the Wittenberg website. In addition, student broadcasters will provide audio coverage of all home games for the Tiger men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, field hockey, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse home games. Every broadcast will be available online, with selected games also available on WUSO 89.1-FM.
The Tiger Sports Network also extends to live online video coverage again in 2013-14. All home games played in Pam Evans Smith Arena or at Edwards-Maurer Field can be seen live on the Internet via the aforementioned link.
WIZE has been on the air in Springfield since 1940, and it was the on-air home for Wittenberg football and men’s basketball for many years. Now owned by Clear Channel Communications, WIZE’s main format is classic country music after many years of primarily radio talk programming.
