Tigers Suffer Hard Losses Against Tough Opponents

Heading toward the finish line of the 2001 season, the Tigers have had their share of struggles, last week losing to California-Berkeley 7-0 in a rare game against a nationally ranked Division I team at Ohio State University, defeating Kenyon 2-0 in the lone NCAC match of the week, and then losing back-to-back 1-0 games during a Fall Break road trip to Ithaca and Mercyhurst over the weekend.

 		 Heading toward the finish line of the 2001 season, the Tigers have had their share of struggles, last week losing to California-Berkeley 7-0 in a rare game against a nationally ranked Division I team at Ohio State University, defeating Kenyon 2-0 in the lone NCAC match of the week, and then losing back-to-back 1-0 games during a Fall Break road trip  to Ithaca and Mercyhurst over the weekend.

The Tigers, who started the year 7-0, did get solid play out of freshman goaltender Jenny Meyer (Solon, Ohio/Hathaway Brown), who started all four games and recorded more than 10 saves in each of the two losses on the Fall Break trip. Removing the loss to California, Meyer has yielded just four goals in six games, including four starts. 


In the win over Kenyon, Meyer recorded her first shutout, while the offense was led by freshman Amy Burlingame (Dennis, Mass./Yarmouth-Dennis) and junior Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who had one goal each.

The Tigers conclude the 2001 season this week with four more games, beginning with senior recognition day at Wittenberg against Earlham. Then comes a make-up at Denison on Thursday and then two games at the KIT/NCAC tournament at Kenyon on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers are the defending KIT/NCAC champions.
