Wittenberg Field Hockey Earns 2-0 Road Win at Transylvania
Lexington, KY - On a crisp Tuesday evening, Wittenberg Field Hockey continued its winning ways with a 2-0 road victory over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe Transylvania. The impressive win keeps Wittenberg spotless on the season, improving its record to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC and extending the best start for the program in more than 20 years.
The Tigers got on the board early as junior Devyn Groves (La Grange, KY / Oldham County Senior) found the back of the cage just four minutes into the first period to give Witt a 1-0 advantage. Senior Lucy DeVita (Columbus, OH / Upper Arlington) provided the assist on Groves' goal. The Tigers maintained that lead through the halftime break.
The two squads continued to battle evently until Groves notched her second goal of the evening early in the fourth period to double Wittenberg's lead to 2-0. The goal was also Groves team-leading eighth of the season.
The Tigers successfully continued their defensive stand with their fifth shutout of the season. Seniors Caitlin Archdeacon (Saratoga, CA / Westmont) and Izzy Thompson (New Albany, OH / New Albany) and sophomore Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) combined to lead the way defensively with five saves in goal. The Tigers have allowed just three goals in seven games so far in 2024.
