SEWANEE, TN. – Looking for a little revenge over Wittenberg from the past four meetings that ended in losses, Sewanee tallied a 7-0 victory over the Tigers in field hockey action on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Puett Field.
Sewanee had a big second period, taking 16 shots that landed in the cage for five goals. The Tigers scored another in each of the first and fourth periods while holding Wittenberg scoreless and shotless in the shutout.
The loss dropped Wittenberg to 0-6 on the season, while Sewanee improved to 3-4 on the season. However, Witt is 15-3-1 in the overall series vs. Sewanee.
For the game, Sewanee outshot Wittenberg by a 44-0 margin. Wittenberg got 21 saves from goalkeepers Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) and Taryn Toburen (Lititz, PA / Warwick) with 12 and nine, respectively.
Sewanee had a total of 44 shots, 12 penalty corners, and 60 fouls, while Witt had 33 fouls and two penalty corners.
