Tiger Field Hockey Tallies First Win of Season
WOOSTER, OH – Wittenberg's field hockey team scored two goals in the second half against host Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match on Saturday, Oct. 4, to capture a 2-0 victory and notch its first win of the season at John P. Papp Field.
Devyn Groves (La Grange, KY / Oldham County Senior)) was the first to shake the cage with a shot from the middle from 10 yards out for an unassisted goal at the 37:39 mark of the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, OH / Bexley) then hit again for the Tigers in the fourth period at the 50:42 mark on an unassisted long ball to make to 2-0.
The Tigers held out on defense, fending off seven Wooster shots in the final period to hold on for the win. Wittenberg ended with 14 shots, eight on goal, and five penalty corners, while Wooster tallied 11 shots, two on goal, and four penalty corners.
Wittenberg got two saves from goalkeepers Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) and Taryn Toburen (Lititz, PA / Warwick) on the day. Krasnow led the team in shots with three, while Groves added two.
With the win, Wittenberg improves to 1-8 on the season and 1-1 in the NCAC. Wooster drops to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the NCAC.
Next up, Wittenberg will be on the road again on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Oberlin at 1 p.m.
