Eight Tigers Claim NFHCA National Academic Squad Honors

SPRINGFIELD, OH - Eight Wittenberg University field hockey student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2025 season by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Devyn Groves (La Grange, KY / Oldham County Senior), Aysha Johnson (Kettering, OH / Fairmont), Emily Owens (Stow, OH / Stow-Munroe Falls), Hannah Richardson (Farmington Hills, MI / North Farmington), Lauren Singery (Johannesburg, South Africa / Bryanston), Taryn Toburen (Lititz, PA / Warwick), Jamie Triolo (Haskell, NJ / Lakeland Regional), and Alexis Vazquez (Cypress, TX / Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) were among more than 1,800 undergraduate student-athletes from more than 147 institutions named to the 2025 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
Sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, the NFHCA National Academic Squad program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.
"We are so proud of the high standard to which our team members hold themselves," said Wittenberg Field Hockey Head Coach Brighid Kortyna '18. "These players who earned National Academic Squad recognition truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete at Wittenberg."
The Tigers finished fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season standings with a 6-3 record. Their season came to a close as they fell to regular season champions Ohio Wesleyan 3-0 in the NCAC Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The Tigers posted a 6-11 record overall in 2025.
