Wittenberg Gets Big Win Over Kenyon With Second Half Spurt
The Wittenberg men's basketball team recovered from a midweek loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday by beating the visiting Kenyon Lords by a final score of 74-61. Numerous Tigers had hot hands as four different players shot 66% or better.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's basketball team recovered from a midweek loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday by beating the visiting Kenyon Lords by a final score of 74-61. Numerous Tigers had hot hands as four different players shot 66% or better.
Despite shooting just under 50% at 5-of-11, junior guard Gregg Hill (Farmington Hills, Mich./Redford Union) racked up 18 points, finishing just behind junior wing Kevin Murray (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), who shot a stellar 7-of-8 from the field on his way to a game-high 19 points. Murray added 10 rebounds to make it a double-double.
Other Tigers shooting above 66% included junior Jeromy Romero (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes), who was 3-for-4, sophomore Brad Folta (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette), who went 2-2, and Mark Snyder (Celina, Ohio/Parkway), who finished at 4-of-6.
The first and second halves were as different as night and day. Kenyon held the lead through the first 13 minutes of the game, before four lead changes found the Lords heading to the locker room at halftime with a slim one-point lead. In the opening ticks of the second half, however, Murray nailed a three-pointer to put the Tigers up by two, and Kenyon never regained the lead.
The Tigers finished at 47% shooting as a team, and finished at 17-of-20 from the charity stripe.
The men travel to Wabash on Wednesday for a 7:30 tip-off with the Little Giants.
