Travis Schwab Earns Induction Into OWU Athletic Hall Of Fame
Witenberg associate head coach recognized by his alma mater for his exploits on the court between 2000 and 2004.
Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University Men’s Basketball Associate Head Coach Travis Schwab took a break from his professional duties on Saturday, Oct. 25, to participate in a special ceremony at his alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University. Schwab was one of seven former Battling Bishop standouts to earn induction into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming weekend festivities.
Schwab, a 2004 Ohio Wesleyan graduate, is one of the finest players not only in Battling Bishop history but in the annals of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). He was the first men’s basketball student-athlete to earn four first-team All-NCAC awards, in addition to 2001 NCAC Newcomer of the Year and 2004 NCAC Player of the Year honors.
“Even though it was a foregone conclusion that Travis would be inducted into their Athletic Hall of Honor in his first year of eligibility, it doesn’t lessen the excitement that we have for his selection,” said Wittenberg Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bill Brown. “Trust me, with OWU being a fellow conference member, we know first-hand the type of passionate competitor and player Travis was throughout his career. Our program and players here at Wittenberg are very fortunate to have him now providing all those very same passions to our program.”
Schwab capped his collegiate career with second-team All-America honors in 2004 after earning all-district awards following both his junior and senior seasons. In the final game of his career, Schwab scored an NCAC Tournament-record 40 points in a semifinal loss to Wooster in a game played at Wittenberg. During his career, he scored 1985 points (second all-time at OWU, third all-time in NCAC) and grabbed 760 rebounds (seventh all-time at OWU).
Schwab joined Wittenberg’s program in 2007 after two years as a graduate assistant at Heidelberg and one year as an assistant at Kenyon. The Tigers have a 132-64 record, one NCAC regular season title and three NCAA Division III Tournament berths with Schwab on the bench, highlighted by a run to the national quarterfinals in 2010.
