After Slow Start, Tigers Push Past Mount St. Joseph, 75-51
Springfield, Ohio - After struggling through the first 13 minutes of their non-conference match-up with Mount St. Joseph, the Wittenberg Tigers got things going with a 19-5 run to end the first half and never looked back, eventually claiming a decisive 72-48 win over the Lions.
The win moved Wittenberg to 4-2 on the season, while MSJ dropped to 0-5.
After taking a five-point in the early going, Wittenberg struggled through an offensive dry spell that resulted in a six-point Mount St. Joseph advantage. That's when junior guard Cameron Harrison (Eaton, Ohio/National Trail) hit a leaner in the lane that finally got the Tigers going again. From that point, Wittenberg dominated the play, sparked by a 13-0 run to end the first half.
The second half was all Tigers as their lead grew to the final margin of 75-51. Wittenberg shot 45 percent from the field, compared to 35 percent for the Lions, and the Tigers finished a strong 10-of-23 from three-point range as well. Wittenberg also won the rebounding battle decisively, 36-26.
Freshman Tyler Galluch (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic) led the Tigers with 17 points in 21 minutes off the bench. Junior Trey Killens (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason) was also in double figures with 14 points, and he led both teams with eight assists, and Harrison chipped in with 11 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds.
After a brief holiday break, the Tigers hit the road for an exhibition game against Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 25.
