Wabash Tops Wittenberg 72-46 in Men’s Basketball NCAC Play
Crawfordsville, IN - Wittenberg ran into a tough Wabash team in men's basketball action Wednesday night, Jan. 22, at Chadwick Court.
The Little Giants, who have been on a hot streak of late, saw four players score in double digits while holding Wittenberg to just 18 points in the first half on their way to a 72-46 North Coast Athletic Conference victory. It was the fourth win in a row for Wabash, now 11-6 overall and 7-1 in the NCAC for second place behind Denison, which is 8-0. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the NCAC.
Wittenberg jumped out to a 6-2 lead to begin the game and would stay ahead until the 14:33 mark. After six lead changes, the Little Giants toughened up their defense and caught fire to go on a 27-10 run and enjoy a 36-18 edge at the intermission. The Tigers were forced to play catchup and couldn't break Wabash's momentum.
The Tigers were 18-of-47 from the field for 38.3 percent, 6-of-19 from three-point range for 31.6 percent, and 4-of-10 from the line for 40 percent. Wabash was 27-for-57 (47.4 percent) from the field, 10-of-25 (40 percent) from three-point land, and eight-of-17 (47.1 percent) from the line.
Wabash outrebounded Wittenberg 39-28. The Tigers recorded eight assists, 16 points in the paint, and 21 points from the bench as 15 players saw minutes in the game.
Eddie Brown (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) paced the Tigers in scoring and in rebounding with 12 points and seven rebounds. He also added three assists. Cal Bavineau (Dexter, MI / Dexter) added nine points, all from three-point range. He also had three rebounds on the night.
Next up, Wittenberg will travel to Ohio Wesleyan for another NCAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
