Tiger Men’s Basketball Takes Down Waynesburg, 80-55, in Afternoon Battle
WAYNESBURG, PA. – Tyler Galluch (Springfield, OH/Catholic Central) scored 13 points to go over the 500-mark in his career as Wittenberg's men's basketball team skated to an 80-55 non-conference victory over Waynesburg on Wednesday, Dec. 17, on the road at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
It was the eighth win in a row for the Tigers, who are now 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the series against the Yellow Jackets. This was only the second meeting between the two teams, and Waynesburg picked up the victory in the first one in 2014. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-7 overall and have lost seven in a row.
Wittenberg scored the first bucket, and after two ties, Galluch landed a three-pointer to put the Tigers up 7-4. Witt would never look back, extending its lead to 25-10 at the 10:45 mark and holding on for a 35-25 lead at the intermission. The Tigers' lead grew in the second half, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 45-30, with 16 players putting in time. Their largest lead was 77-51 with 1:15 remaining in the game.
Wittenberg spread out the scoring with only two players hitting double digits in Galluch and Eddie Brown (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) at 13 apiece. Sophomore Jacob Roeth (Troy, OH / Miami East) added eight off the bench. Galluch came into the game with 491 career points. His 13 puts him over the 500-mark with 504 total. Brown led the team in rebounds with 13, and three players had three assists, including Galluch.
The Tigers also capitalized on the Yellow Jackets' 16 turnovers, scoring 18 points off the miscues and committing only 11 of their own. Wittenberg was a stellar 33-for-58 from the field for a 56.9 percent, while Waynesburg was 20-for-53 from the field for 37.7 percent. The Tigers were also eight-for-22 from three-point range to just 2-for-14 for the Yellow Jackets and outrebounded them 34-26.
Next up, Wittenberg, 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, will host Mount St. Joseph in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at Pam Evans Smith Arena, part of the Health, Wellness & Athletics Complex.
