Men’s Basketball Falls to DePauw on the road
GREENCASTLE, IN – Unable to muster up much offense in the second half, Wittenberg men's basketball fell to DePauw, 70-43, on the road in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Things were looking good for Witt in the first half after jumping out to a 13-2 lead. However, DePauw went on a rampage and turned things around quickly to grab a 28-26 advantage at the intermission. The onslaught continued in the second half as Wittenberg found it tough to score, going just 6-of-28 from the field. DePauw put on the pressure defensively and landed five three-pointers, outscoring Witt 42-17 in the second half to pull away for the big win.
It was Wittenberg's first NCAC loss of the season, dropping to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. DePauw improves to 11-3 overall and 4-1 NCAC.
Noah Frayer (Odenton, MD / SPIRE Academy) led Wittenberg in scoring, tossing in 17 points. Kyle Kenney (Centerville, OH / Centerville) and Dawson Scott (New Castle, IN / New Castle) led Wittenberg in rebounds with five each.
Wittenberg was 18-for-57 (31.6%) from the field and 1-for-18 (5.6%) from three-point range, while DePauw shot 23-for-61 (37.7%) from the field and 5-for-22 (22.7%) from three-point land. DePauw outrebounded Witt 45-30 and led in assists 13-3. Turnovers were close, with Wittenberg committing nine, while DePauw tallied eight. However, DePauw was able to capitalize on the turnovers, scoring 13 points off the miscues.
Next up, Wittenberg will travel to Denison on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a 2 p.m. game.
