Tigers Hang On For 63-60 Win Over Ohio Wesleyan
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Behind a season-high 20 points from Eddie Brown (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange), the Wittenberg Tigers held off visiting Ohio Wesleyan to secure a 63-60 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory.
Brown's last basket was probably his most clutch so far in his senior season. With the shot clock winding down, Brown knocked down a baseline jump shot to give the Tigers some much-needed breathing room at 61-58 with 45 seconds remaining. After the Battling Bishops responded with a basket, Tyler Galluch (Springfield, OH / Catholic Central) capped the scoring with two free throws with 20 seconds left. OWU had two three-point attempts in the final five seconds, but both were off the mark.
The win moves Wittenberg to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC as the Tigers keep pace with the rest of league leaders after starting the day one game off the top spot. Ohio Wesleyan, which lost both meetings with Wittenberg in the 2025-26 season, is now 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the NCAC.
Wittenberg opened the game by jumping out to a 7-1 lead, but by halftime the Bishops had rallied to take a 32-31 lead. That set the stage for a back-and-forth second half that ended with Brown and Galluch hitting the key shots in the final minute. There were a total of 11 ties and 14 lead changes in the entire game.
Brown finished the game a perfect 9-for-9 from the field. The school record for field goal percentage uses a minimum of 10 attempts, and it has stood since Tyrone Curtis set it in 1979. As a team, Wittenberg had one of its best shooting performances of the season as the Tigers finished 21-of-41 for 51.2 percent, despite struggling at times with OWU's active zone defense.
Wittenberg held a commanding rebounding advantage at 28-16, but the Tigers committed 14 turnovers to just six for Ohio Wesleyan.
Brown was among three Tigers in double figures by game's end. Noah Frayer (Odenton, MD / SPIRE Academy) finished with 17 points and Galluch added 16. Dawson Scott (New Castle, IN / New Castle) led the way on the boards with eight, followed by Brown with seven, and Cal Bavineau (Dexter, MI / Dexter) was solid with the ball in his hands, finishing the game with four assists and no turnovers in 23 minutes.
