Luchiano Gomez-Joseph Elevated To Full-Time Assistant Role With Wittenberg Men's Basketball

After one season as a part-time member of Wittenberg's men's basketball coaching staff, Luchiano Gomez-Joseph has moved into a full-time role, just in time for the start of the 2026-27 school year.

A native of Ocala, Florida, Gomez-Joseph made significant contributions to the Tigers' nine-win turnaround season in 2025-26. Wittenberg finished fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season standings and reached the league tournament semifinals.

"Coach Luchi brings so many attributes that you want in an assistant coach," said Wittenberg Men's Basketball Head Coach Darren Hertz. "He's hard-working, intelligent and extremely loyal. He is a relationship guy and has thrived with our player development both on and off the court. We are excited to promote Coach Luchi!"

Gomez-Joseph earned his bachelor's degree in health sciences in 2021 from the University of South Florida (USF). During his time as an undergraduate at USF, Gomez-Joseph served as the men's basketball team’s head student manager. Following graduation, Gomez-Joseph remained on staff as a graduate assistant for the Bulls from 2021-2023 while earning a master of science in global sustainability. After completing his master's, Gomez-Joseph became a full-time NBA Skills trainer. During that time he trained more than 30 NBA, Euroleague, and other professional players, including such established NBA veterans as Gary Trent, Jr., Alex Len, Emoni Bates, Jeff Green, Jaden Springer, Brandon Knight, Rodney Hood, and Andre Drummond.

After earning his master's degree, Gomez-Joseph spent the 2024-25 season as a member of the coaching staff at Campbell University, where he served as the director of player development and as an assistant defensive coach. He was instrumental in developing two of the league’s top players — All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) forward Colby Duggan and CAA Defensive Player of the Year Nolan Dorsey. Campbell was the top-ranked defense in the CAA in 2024-25, and the team led the nation in opponent three-point field goal percentage (27.4%).
