LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off a new era by taking seventh place in a strong 13-team field at the Transylvania Fall Invitational.
It was the first event for the men's golf program under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Roope, who took the reins in July of both the men's and women's programs. It is the start of a busy fall season that includes six events, including the Wittenberg Invitational Sept. 22-23.
Wittenberg started slowly at the Transylvania Fall Invitational and found themselves in 10th place after Day 1 with a 321. On Day 2, however, the Tigers were the tourney's biggest mover as they shot a collective 300 to move up to seventh place, six shots behind one of the two teams that Centre College had in the competition. As a group, the four Wittenberg scorers on Sunday shot a collective one-under-par on the back nine.
Junior Garrett Smith (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led with a 153, including a second-day 75. Juniors Dan Buchan (Dublin, Ohio/Worthington Christian) and Chad Summe (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) followed with matching 157s.
