Tigers Go Low On Day 2 To Pick Up First Win Of Fall Season

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers stepped up to the challenge in a big way at the Nye Intercollegiate/North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Preview, carding a second round 293 to break open a tight battle for the top spot.
Wittenberg posted its first victory of the 2015-16 season after three previous top-five finishes while competing at some of the most challenging tournaments of the year. The Tigers posted a two-round total of 592 to pull away from an eight-team field made up entirely of NCAC schools.
Allegheny finished second with a 602, followed by Wooster at 606 and first-round co-leader Kenyon at 607. The Lords and Wittenberg posted matching scores of 299 on Day 1.
Individually, the Tigers were paced by senior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro). He finished third with a two-round total of 145, highlighted by a collegiate-best 69 in the second round.
Junior Garrett Brickley (Pickerington, Ohio/North) was next for Wittenberg in fifth place with a 148. Junior Sam Stilwell (Dominion, Va./Sterling) and freshman Colin Laszlo (Waipahu, Hawaii/Punahou) were next in eighth place with a 150, and junior Mark David Wright (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) rounded out the Tiger scorers in 28th place with a 158.
Four other Tigers were in the field as well. Freshman Isaac Hartley (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) placed 14th with a 154, freshman Cooper Taylor (Superior, Col./Monarch) finished 16th with a 155, freshman Chris Eigner (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) took 22nd with a 156, and freshman Chase Thornhill (Lexington, Ky./West Jessamine) checked in 24th with a 157. The field included 57 golfers.
