Second-Place Finish In Loaded Field Caps Solid First Half Of 2015-16 Season
Tigers place in top four in each of their four fall tournaments, capped by runner-up honors at prestigious O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Invitational.
GREENSBORO, NC - The Wittenberg Tigers faced perhaps their most challenging fall tournament schedule in program history just months after three of their most decorated seniors graduated. Following a runner-up finish at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Invitational, it is clear that the Tigers haven't missed a beat.
Wittenberg finished in the top four in each of its five fall tournaments, starting with the Transylvania Fall Invitational in early September. Along the way, the Tigers competed against most of the teams ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek NCAA Division III poll, including three of the top 25 at the O'Briant-Jensen (in addition to Wittenberg).
Seventeenth-ranked Huntingdon was the team champion with a two-day score of 606, six strokes better than fourth-ranked Wittenberg. Guilford was right behind with a 613, followed by top-ranked and defending national champion Methodist at 627 and host Greensboro at 629.
The Tigers were paced individually by junior Garrett Brickley (Pickerington, Ohio/North), who posted his best collegiate finish. He carded rounds of 75 and 74 to finish second in the 95-player field with a total of 149, six strokes behind medalist Addison Lambeth of Huntingdon.
Junior Sam Stilwell (Sterling, Va./Dominion) was next for Wittenberg with a 153, good for seventh place. He was followed by senior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and freshman Colin Laszlo (Waipahu, Hawaii/Punahou) in 13th with matching scores of 155, and junior Mark David Wright (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) in 29th with a 159.
Wright punctuated his second round with a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th hole at the Sedgefield Dye Course.
