Men's Golf Wins Wright State Invitational

In a field of all Division I competitors, Wittenberg men’s golf not only held their own, but led the pack at Monday and Tuesday’s Wright State Invitational. The Tigers fired a +15 1080 at the Par 71, 6,666 yard Miami Valley Golf Club, finishing atop the leaderboard as a team.

DAYTON, Ohio—In a field of all Division I competitors, Wittenberg men's golf not only held their own, but led the pack at Monday and Tuesday's Wright State Invitational. The Tigers fired a 1,080 (+15) at the Par 71, 6,666 yard Miami Valley Golf Club, finishing atop the leaderboard as a team.

Wittenberg finished 22 strokes ahead of second place Wright State University, and 23 strokes ahead of third place Northern Kentucky University. As a team, the Tigers turned in an invitational low 356 in their second round of play.
 

Individually, Wittenberg saw sophomore Colin Laszlo card rounds of 70 (-1), 70 (-1) and 69 (-2) to earn medalist honors with a combined score of 209 (-4). Laszlo edged out Jacob Poore, who entered the clubhouse on Tuesday three-under for the Norse of Northern Kentucky.

Garrett Brickley also showed well for Wittenberg in the win, as the senior carded rounds of 71 (E), 72 (+1), and 73 (+2), as his three-over finish was good enough for a ninth-place tie with Sam Triplett of Northwestern University.
 

After finishing even and in fourth place with back to back rounds of 71 after day one, Cameron Willis finished tied for 11th place on Tuesday, tied at five-over with Austin Sipe of Wright State, and Jacob Jackson of Northern Kentucky.

Mark David Wright and Sam Stilwell rounded out the top-twenty finishes for the Tigers, as David Wright carded a 220 (+7) and Stilwell a 221 (+8), finishing in 14th and 18th place respectively.
 

Wittenberg's win as a team is the third of the 2016-17 circuit, as the Tigers earned first place finishes at the Guy W. Kuhn Memorial Invitational on September 12, as well as at the Members Invitational on March 9.

The Tigers now make the short trip back to Springfield and await the first NCAC Championship series on April 22 and 23, hosted by Meadville Country Club, in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
