Tigers Finish in Top Five in Final Tune-Up Before NCAC Championship
Chardon, OH - The Wittenberg Men's Golf team traveled to Sand Ridge Golf Club in Northeast Ohio to compete in the Caschera/DiCillo Classic, hosted by John Carroll, in the final competition before the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships. After two rounds, the Tigers finished tied for fourth with Denison at 31-over-par, just one stroke ahead of DePauw in sixth. NCAC rival Kenyon, the pre-championships favorite after winning the league title a year ago, won the tournament at +8, while the host team, John Carroll, took second at +15, and Trine finished third at +28.
The best individual finish for the Tigers came from freshman Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder), as he tied for fifth at one over par by shooting matching rounds of 73 to finish at 146. The next Wittenberg golfers to score for the Tigers were Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH / Jerome) and Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark), who tied for 19th by finishing at +8 with 152 strokes. Bolte reached eight over by carding a first-round 74 and second-round 78, while Yarbrough reached that mark by scoring 75 in the first round and following it up with a 77 in the second.
Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, OH / Akron Hoban) was next for the Tigers at 13 over par, scoring 157 to tie for 37th after rounds of 79 and 78. The best individual finisher for the Tigers, whose score does not count for the team, was Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, OH / McDonald), who finished tied for 12th at five over par. He carded a first round 74 and a second round 75 to finish the weekend with a total of 149.
Next up for the Tigers is the NCAC Championships Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4, at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Indiana. Wittenberg is shooting for its 14th NCAC Tournament title.
