Tigers Place Well in Field Full of Top Competition
Prattville, AL - The Wittenberg men's golf team took a trip to Alabama to compete in the Capital City Classic, hosted by Huntingdon at the Capitol Hill Golf Club. Most of the teams in the field were ranked in the top 50 of the Clippd rankings, including the top three teams in the nation.
Host Huntingdon finished first in the field at three under par and Methodist was only a few strokes behind with a two over par finish. Carnegie Mellon rounded out the top three at 11 over par. The Tigers finished tied for 12th at 38 over par, one spot better than their day one finish.
The top individual finisher for the Tigers was Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder), as he finished 18th overall at 3 over par with scores of 75, 72, and 72, closing out the last two rounds at even par and eagled hole five in the third round. Griffin Turner (Enon, OH / Greenon) carded a first round 76, second round 78, and third round even par 72 to take 43rd at 10 over par. In 47th and rounding out the top three for the Tigers at 11 over par was Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) with a first round 79, second round 73 and third round 75. Alex Rath (Dublin, OH / Scioto) was the fourth and final Tiger to score as he shot rounds of 78, 74, and 78 to be 59th overall at 14 over par. The fifth finisher for the Tigers was Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) as he finished in 82nd at 25 over with a first round 82, second round 79, and third round 80.
The men's team will get back on the course next week as they head to Virginia to compete in the Sam Snead Intercollegiate Invite, hosted by Piedmont University on April 13 and 14.
