Mikey Schutte Finishes T-88 at NCAA Division III Championships
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL - Sophomore Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) put the finishing touches on the 2025-26 season for himself and the Wittenberg Tigers with two solid rounds at the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament at Mission Inn Resort.
Schutte played eight holes on the opening day of the event before inclement weather cancelled the rest of the round. Starting on the back-nine of the Las Colinas course, Schutte bogeyed three of those eight holes, but he came back strong early on the second day, shooting even-par the rest of the way to finish with a three-over-par round of 74 on the 6,820-yard, par-71 course.
Needing to go low on the El Campeon course, Schutte was solid on Day 2 but unable to push his score closer to par. He shot a four-over-par 76 to finish with a two-day total of seven-over-par 150. That put Schutte in a tie for 88th place out of 225 golfers in the tournament.
The final two days of the event will include the top six individual golfers and the top 18 teams. Ryan Dunn from Oglethorpe leads the tournament at the midway point with a sizzling two-day score of six-under-par 137. Illinois Wesleyan is leading the team competition with a two-round total of five-under-par, three strokes ahead of Washington and Lee.
Schutte had advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament after finishing 60th in the nation with a scoring average of 72.0. As a team, the Tigers finished second in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, ahead of Kenyon, which is in seventh place after two rounds at the national championships, and just four strokes behind John Carroll, which is in 16th place to also make the cut. Wittenberg had qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament as a team in each of the last four years.
"It's disappointing to see Mikey's championship run cut short, and our team just miss out on playing in the event, but I'm confident in the group we have returning and also the players coming in for the 2026-27 season," said Wittenberg Head Coach David Wetterich. "We are already looking forward to our next opportunity to compete, and we will be ready to Tiger Up again!"
