SPRINGFIELD, OH — Wittenberg Men's Golf came up just short in its comeback bid at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, finishing second to host John Carroll after standing 15 strokes behind and in fourth place after Day 1. While the Tigers did not qualify for their 31st NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, sophomore Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) has been selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships as an individual.
In 2025, the Tigers made their fourth straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and the 30th in program history. The 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Champion, Wittenberg finished 16th in last year's NCAA Division III Championships, which took place at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York, and Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, New York.
The 2026 NCAA Division III Championships will take place May 12-15 at Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The team and individual champions will be determined after four rounds (72 holes) of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. Forty-three teams and 10 individuals not on one of those teams were selected to compete in the event, adding up to a total of 225 participants. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
As a team, Wittenberg finished the 2025-26 season ranked by Scoreboard (Clippd) at 29th nationally and sixth in the Great Lakes Region based on scoring average across 27 rounds. The Tigers' scoring average was a stellar 292.3 as a team.
Schutte is one of the 10 individuals selected for the national championships after finishing the 2025-26 season ranked 61st nationally and 14th in the region with an adjusted scoring average of 72.0 across 27 rounds. He had three top-three finishes during the fall portion of the season when he ranked as high as eighth nationally in scoring average.
