Wittenberg Drops Hard-Fought 12-10 Decision At Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - The Wittenberg Tigers need to find that winning formula, the perfect mix of goals, saves and ground balls that would add up to their first win of the 2005 season. For the third straight time to open the season, the Tigers couldn't find that formula on Sunday in a physical 12-10 loss at Randolph-Macon in a game that wrapped up the team's annual Spring Break trip.
Wittenberg got three goals from sophomore Adam Morrison and two tallies from sophomore Travis Moore, while sophomore Sammy Hong, junior Cory Windle, senior Trevor Carlson, sophomore Brandon Schwind and freshman Brandon Hulett all scored once. Windle, the team's leading scorer and lone first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree a year ago, added three assists to lead the Tigers in that department.
After allowing the game's first two goals, Wittenberg battled back with scores by Windle and Moore. The two teams traded scores throughout the first half and headed into the halftime break tied at five. Schwind's goal gave Wittenberg a brief 7-6 lead in the third quarter, the Tigers' lone lead of the game, before Randolph-Macon scored the next three goals. From that point, the two teams exchanged three goals each, leading to the final two-goal margin.
Junior Kevin Adams was the Tigers' starter in goal and he turned away 13 shots, while facing 35 from Randolph-Macon. Wittenberg attempted 30 shots, with RMC's netminder coming up with 15 saves.
