Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team celebrated the careers of five seniors yesterday afternoon before hosting the Lords of Kenyon College. The Tigers battled their NCAC rival on a rainy afternoon from Edwards-Maurer Field, as Wittenberg fell to the Lords 15-8 by the time the final horn sounded. The Wittenberg offense was fueled by Andrew Ellis and Matthew Welch scoring two goals apiece on the day. Tony LeBarge caused four of the six turnovers for the Wittenberg defense while picking up a team-high 13 groundballs on the afternoon.
Wittenberg fell behind early, as the Lords posted their first goal within the first minute of action. The Tigers made their way onto the board with a Noah Moderwell goal with just over five minutes remaining in the first period. Wittenberg got their offense going in the second period, scoring three straight goals, with Lucas Klever getting involved in all three assisting on the Ellis goal and then the Sam Camacho goal, before finding the back of the net on his own. The Lords held Wittenberg scoreless in the third, as Welch would tally both of his goals in the final period of action for the Red and White.
Wittenberg will hit the road on Tuesday, April 9 for a showdown with the Little Giants from Wabash at 4:00 PM.
