McKeigue breaks single-game points record as Men's Lacrosse closes season with 19-8 win at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edwards) broke the single-game points record to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team to a 19-8 win at non-conference foe Westminster on Saturday, capping its 2024 season with a third straight victory.

- The Tigers have completed their 2024 season, as they will not qualify for the upcoming four-team North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Stat Leaders
- McKeigue finished the game with 12 points on nine goals and three assists. His goal and point totals were both career highs. He broke Wittenberg's all-time single-game points record, which had been 11 set by Jeff Mayer in 1990. His nine goals are tied for second all-time in a single game. This marked his sixth hat trick of the season.
- Sophomore Kyle Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) also recorded a hat trick, posting four points on three goals and one assist. This marked his seventh hat trick of the season.
- Junior Connor Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) tallied five points on two goals and three assists.
- Senior Kody Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) posted three points on one goal and two assists.
- Senior Holton Boehmer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and juniors Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and Blake Roller (New Albany, Ohio/St. Charles) scored one goal each.
- Junior Zach Busby (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) recorded two assists.
- Sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) played 45 minutes in goal for the Tigers and recorded nine saves. Freshman Griffin Howell (Whitestown, Ind./Zionsville Community) played the remaining 15 minutes and recorded five saves.
- Junior Max Benincasa (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) and senior Colin Bilbrey (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) led Wittenberg in caused turnovers with three each.
- Freshman Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) was 9-for-11 on faceoffs for the Tigers.
- Gavin Jones led the Westminster offense with three goals.
The Game
- Wittenberg scored the first seven goals of the game as part of taking a 9-2 lead into the second quarter. McKeigue scored four goals in the period to go with one each from Kody Gould, Kyle Gould, Brown, Roller and Matthews.
- Westminster outscored Wittenberg 4-3 in the second quarter and trailed 12-6 at halftime. McKeigue scored twice more in the period to go with a goal from Kyle Gould.
- The Tigers scored the first three goals of the third quarter, as Boehmer and McKeigue found the back of the net to go with a Westminster own goal. McKeigue answered a Westminster goal with another score to send the Tigers into the fourth up 16-7.
- Kyle Gould, McKeigue and Matthews scored three straight goals to put Wittenberg up 19-7 with 9:07 left in the game, and Westminster capped the scoring with a goal with 56 seconds remaining.
- Wittenberg out-shot Westminster by a 45-43 margin and finished with a 34-29 edge in ground balls. The Tigers forced 21 Westminster turnovers.
