Tigers Reach Double-Digits for First Time in Last Nine, Not Enough Against DePauw
GREENCASTLE, IN - Wittenberg Men's Lacrosse traveled to DePauw for another road contest against a conference opponent. While the Tigers scored double-digit goals for the first time in their last nine games, it wasn't enough, as the Ohio Tigers fell, 19-10.
DePauw scored the first two goals of the game, but senior Quentin Rudolph (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Central) scored unassisted to cut the lead in half. Despite cutting into the lead, DePauw scored another to go up by two heading into the second quarter. The Indiana Tigers then netted three in a row to go up 6-1. Wittenberg answered with another unassisted goal, this time by Tripp Salowich (Plymouth, MI / Canton), firing the ball right past the DePauw goalie. But DePauw didn't blink, adding another four goals before the end of the half.
Going into the second half, the Ohio Tigers trailed by a large margin, 10-2. Already up eight, DePauw added another two to go up by 10, but Wittenberg was not done fighting. With a man up, Ty Harris (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore) slashed the lead back to single digits and then assisted on a goal scored by Travis Demsher (Santa Clarita, CA / West Ranch) to make it two in a row for Wittenberg. Clay Habben (Shawnee, KS / Shawnee Mission Northwest) added a third in a row for the Ohio Tigers, followed by the second of the game for Demsher to make it four straight and just a six-point deficit heading into the final period of play. Unfortunately, Wittenberg couldn't keep the momentum going and DePauw found the back of the net four straight times to start the fourth quarter. Colten Simkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) added another to the Witt total, but DePauw would answer once again. Harris would net his second goal of the day off of a Demsher assist and Salwich would score his second. With two and a half minutes remaining, Harris completed his hat trick to get the Wittenberg total to 10. After the second goal by Harris, DePauw scored another two times to make the final 19-10 in favor of the Indiana Tigers.
