Tigers Drop Senior Day Contest to John Carroll, 14-5
SPRINGFIELD, OH – Wittenberg Men's Lacrosse team fell 14–5 to John Carroll on Senior Recognition Day on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field.
Prior to the game, the Tigers recognized 12 outstanding seniors: Tripp Salowich (Plymouth, MI / Canton), Charlie Boucuvalas (Oakwood, OH / Oakwood), Ty Harris (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore), Tommy Kipfer (Powell, OH / Olentangy), Luke Stanfield (Lebanon, OH / Lebanon), Ethan Pac (Greenwood, OH / Cathedral), Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, OH / St. Edward), Colten Simkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East), Chase Singleton (Springboro, OH / Springboro), Jacob Turney (Waynesville, OH / Springboro), Will Westermeyer (Loveland, OH / Loveland) and Quentin Rudolph (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Central).
The Blue Streaks struck first with a pair of goals in the opening quarter and carried a 2–0 advantage after 15 minutes. John Carroll continued to apply pressure early in the second quarter, extending the lead to 3–0 before Wittenberg got on the board on a man-up opportunity. Ty Harris (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore) connected on an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to two.
John Carroll responded with three more goals to close the half, including a score just before the halftime horn, to take a 5–1 lead into the break.
The visitors added another tally early in the third quarter before Wittenberg found momentum with back-to-back goals midway through the period. Harris scored his second of the afternoon, assisted by Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls), and Mikey Clark (Hilliard, OH / Davidson) followed with a goal off a feed from Charlie Boucuvalas (Oakwood, OH / Oakwood) to make it a 6–3 contest.
John Carroll answered with a late third-quarter goal and added three more early in the fourth to regain control. Tripp Salowich (Plymouth, MI / Canton) scored on a man-up opportunity with 7:31 remaining, assisted by Travis Demsher(Santa Clarita, CA / West Ranch), and Zach Gfell (Sylvania, OH / Northview) added a late unassisted goal to close out the Tigers' scoring.
Harris led Wittenberg with two goals, while Clark, Salowich, and Gfell each found the back of the net. Boucuvalas, Frederick, and Demsher recorded assists as part of the home effort.
In goal, Singleton was outstanding in his final collegiate appearance as he made 10 saves while playing all 60 minutes. Defensively, Simkins collected a team-high eight ground balls and went 11-for-14 at the faceoff as the Tigers continued to compete throughout the afternoon.
