SPRINGFIELD, OH. – Wittenberg's men's soccer team couldn't find the net in a 2-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) loss to visiting DePauw on a chilly Tuesday night, Oct. 15, at Edwards-Maurer Stadium.
DePauw improves its series record against Wittenberg to 12-7-4. Last year's match ended in a 2-2 tie. With this latest win DePauw improves to 7-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NCAC. Wittenberg drops to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.
DePauw scored a goal in the first half at the 5:48 mark off the foot of Julian Bell unassisted. Harrison Engel then found the back of the net in the second half at the 81:31 mark of the game off an assist by Ethan Webster to go up 2-0.
DePauw showed good defense throughout the match holding Wittenberg to five shots total, none on goal. DePauw had 16 shots, seven on goal.
Wittenberg goalkeeper Peter Adams (Columbus, OH / Hilliard Darby) tallied five saves on the night. Kyler Hagstrom (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) had two shots on the night, Casey Meltzer (Cleveland, OH / St. Ignatius), Cameron Elliott (Springfield, OH / Springfield), and James D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) had the other shots for Wittenberg.
DePauw had a total of three corner kicks, all before the half. Wittenberg had one corner kick in the second half. The two teams were close in fouls with Witt committing 11 to DePauw's 10. Wittenberg also had six yellow cards and one red. DePauw had three yellow cards.
Wittenberg, which fell to 2-3-1 at home, has scored 16 goals in nine games. The Tigers will host Denison on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Recognition Day.
