STEUBENVILLE, OH - Wittenberg Men's Soccer made the most of a Friday evening trip across the Buckeye State, pulling out a 2-0 victory over host Franciscan University.
The win moved Wittenberg to 3-0-1 on the still-young 2025 season, while Franciscan, champion of the Presidents' Athletic Conference last year, dropped to 1-3. The shutout was the third in a row for the Tigers, who have not allowed a goal since the 50th minute of the season opener against Heidelberg.
Wittenberg scored one goal in each half against Franciscan. The opening goal came from Joseph Yost (Ramstein, Germany / Ramstein American, Germany) in the 19th minute as he found the back of the net without the benefit of an assist. The Tigers put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute on a goal by Asher Donahue (Muncie, IN / Burris Laboratory School) off a feed from Ian Sergent (Versailles, Kentucky / Woodford County).
Wittenberg won despite being outshot by the host team, 21-13. Franciscan also held an edge in corner kick opportunities at 9-7.
Konnor Gribbins (Columbus, IN / Columbus North ) and Collin LaVeck (Carroll, OH / Bloom-Carroll) led Wittenberg's offense with three shots apiece, followed by Ever Zepeda (Los Angeles, CA / New Designs Charter) with two in the game. At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Peter Adams (Columbus, OH / Hilliard Darby) was stellar in net with six saves.
