LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Tiger swimming and diving teams continued the hot start to their 2011-12 seasons with matching sweeps of Wilmington and host Transylvania in a double dual.
The Tiger men improved to 4-1 with win over Transylvania 93-55 and Wilmington 95-37. The Tiger women remained unbeaten in the early going of the campaign after posting wins by scores of 76-55 over Transylvania and 109-23 over Wilmington.
For the men, the leader was freshman AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) with three individual victories in the 100-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard Individual Medley, to go along with a spot on the winning 200-yard medley relay.
Burt was joined on the winning relay by junior Andrew Koukis (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes), who went on to pick up a win in the 100-yard backstroke. Also touching the wall first was freshman Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University Heights) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior JB Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills) in the 200-yard freestyle, senior Ted Hutchinson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) in the 200-yard butterfly, senior Matt Parker (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) in the 200-yard backstroke, and freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On the women's side, senior Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) and sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) were both winners in individual events and the 200-yard medley relay. Hannon finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, while Gustafson topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Other first-place finishers were freshman Melissa Hascher (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and sophomore Courtney Carani (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest).
In addition, freshmen Cali Clayton (Jacksonville, Fla./Douglas Anderson) and Eric Roberts (Willits, Calif./Willits) secured wins in both diving events.
