Tigers showed some fight against their neighboring NCAA Division I rival
DAYTON, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's tennis team lost 6-1 to the University of Dayton, but the Tigers showed some fight against their neighboring NCAA Division I rival.
The loss was Wittenberg's second straight and dropped the Tigers to 12-6 on the season.
After a doubles sweep for the Flyers, the Tigers battled back to extend Dayton in the singles competition. FreshmenAlexey and Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) lost at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, by scores of 7-5, 6-1 and 7-6, 6-3. Freshman Ian Streicker (New Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland) captured the second set at No. 1 singles before losing in a third set tiebreaker.
Junior Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) broke at the No. 5 position for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) victory.
