Tigers Excel Throughout Wittenberg Invitational
Every Tiger player entered in the Wittenberg Invitational won at least one singles and doubles match
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's tennis team continued to impress in the early going of the 2012-13 school year as every player entered in the five-team Wittenberg Invitational won at least one singles and doubles match and Tiger players won three of seven flights contested.
Wittenberg players enjoyed success in each of the five singles flights and two doubles flights, starting with sophomore Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland), who was a finalist in single Flight 1. In Flight 3, junior Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) reached the final as well before falling in a third-set tiebreaker.
Rounding out the singles were a pair of Tiger victors. Junior Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) was the champion in a tight three-setter of Flight 4 and junior Joe Marra (Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls) added a victory in Flight 5.
In doubles, it was an all-Wittenberg final at the top flight as Streicker paired with freshman Stas Pakhomov (Richmond, British Columbia) to defeat Fishkin and sophomore Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) by an 8-5 score. In Flight 2, the Tiger tandem of freshman Dennis Gleason (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles) and junior Jonathan Mueller (Bexley, Ohio/Hartley) was a finalist.
