GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers rounded out the 2013-14 season with losses to Denison and Wabash in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament.
The Tigers wound up seventh in the final league standings. Overall, Wittenberg finished the season with an 11-10 record after its last six matches.
In the first round on Friday, sixth-seeded Wittenberg fell 5-0 to third-seeded Denison, the host team of the tournament. Played indoors due to inclement weather, the match was played to conclusion, meaning the last four singles matches were not completed once Denison had clinched the team victory.
The Tigers returned to Denison on Saturday to square off against Wabash, which Wittenberg had defeated 5-4 earlier in the season. This time, the Little Giants got the best of things, taking five of the first seven points to clinch the match 5-2.
Junior Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia/School 712) was responsible for both of the Tigers' points against Wabash. In doubles, he paired with sophomore Stas Pakhomov (Richmond, British Columbia/Sir Winston Churchill) to win 8-5 at No. 1. He followed that with straight sets victory at No. 2 singles.
