Men's Tennis Defeats Shawnee St. In Long Awaited Home Opener
Springfield, OH - The Wittenberg men's tennis team had a convincing win on their new home courts at the Albright Tennis Complex on, hosting the Shawnee State Bears. The Tigers started fierce in doubles winning all three courts. Doubles team John Devito and Jake Stockhausen came out with a victory (8-5) followed by Connor Ruble and Brayden Kopp who swiftly won 8-3. Doubles was rounded off by Joe Patton and Roy Jensen who quickly won 8-1 over the Bears three doubles team.
Singles wins for the Tigers came from Juniors Stockhausen (8-6) and Kopp (8-2), Sophomore Kyle Fout (6-4, 6-2), and Freshmen Mark Trinka (6-3, 6-3). Devito put up a Tiger-sized fight but ended with a loss (1-8), and Ruble fought to the very end, losing in a hopeful tiebreaker (6-4, 5-7, 10-12).
The Tigers will be traveling to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the ITA Regional October 1-3, and some Tigers will also be traveling to face the Franciscan Barons on Sunday the 3rd.
