Tigers Take Two First-Place Finishes at Ashland
Ashland, OH - Wittenberg Men's Track and Field headed to the Ashland Invitational and came away with some great finishes against a strong field. The Tigers were pitted against teams such as Ohio Dominican, Seton Hll, Duquesne, Slippery Rock, Walsh, Capital and more.
In the men's 60-meter dash prelims, Elijah Simmons (Jacksonville, FL / Groveport Madison) finished 11th with a time of 7.17 second, just one-tenth of a second from claiming a spot in the finals. Jack Kittle (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) claimed the men's first top-10 finish of the day as he took fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.33 seconds. Cameron Elliott (Springfield, OH / Springfield) highlighted the Tiger finishes as he took first place overall in the 400-meter dash in a blistering time of 48.13 seconds. Lukas Rieben (Clayton, OH / Northmont) added to the list of top-10 finishers as he took seventh in the 1-mile run in 4:23.47. In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, Kory Davis (Brookville, OH / Brookville) added his name to the top-10 list as he finished in 8.35 seconds, only .05 seconds away from a finals spot. The Tigers took another first-place finish as the 4x400-meter relay team of Elliott, Davis, Kittle, and Dashawn Seye (Centerville, OH / Centerville) in a time of 3:16.64.
Wittenberg continued to perform well in the field events, starting off with a seventh-place finish from Matthew Keaton (Westerville, OH / North) in the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters. Neal Godfrey (Columbus, OH / St. Francis DeSales) leaped 6.53 meters in the long jump, good for ninth place. AJ Sutherly (Marysville, OH / Marysville) was only one spot away from a top-10 finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.39 meters to earn 11th to close out the day for the men's team.
Next, the Tigers will compete in and host the Steemer Showcase on Saturday, January 31st, with events starting at 11:00 am.
