Tigers Record Top Finishes at NCAC Combined Championships
WOOSTER, OH - Over the weekend, four Tiger track and field athletes traveled to the College of Wooster to compete in the first part of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The NCAC Combined Championships featured the heptathlon for the men over both Saturday and Sunday, and the pentathlon for the women on Sunday, and the Tiger student-athletes excelled across the board. In the process of picking up two first-place finishes and a second-place finish on the weekend, the Tigers got an early jump on the league's team competition.
On the women's side, the Tigers collected a whopping 18 team points thanks to a phenomenal 1-2 finish in the pentathlon. Freshman Bethany Allen (Greenup, KY / Russell) took first place with a total score of 2881 points. En route to the title, Allen earned top finishes in the long jump with a mark of 4.99 meters and the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.18. Sophomore Cayla Eaton (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) finished second, right behind Allen with a final score of 2873 points. Eaton's top finishes came in the high jump at 1.53 meters and second-place finishes in both the shot put and long jump.
For the men in the two-day heptathlon, Wittenberg scored 10 important team points as well. Those came courtesy of Nicolas Farfoglia (Manchester, MD / Manchester Valley) as he took the top spot. Farfoglia was second after Day 1 thanks to a first in the 60 meters in 7.19 seconds and a win in the long jump with a leap of 6.41 meters. On Day 2, Farfoglia finished in the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81 seconds and took second place in the pole vault to finish first with a final score of 4742 points.
The other Tiger to compete in the heptathlon was freshman David Martin (Pataskala, OH / Watkins Memorial). Martin was in 14th of 17 competitors after day one and ended up picking up a spot to finish 13th overall with a point total of 3099.
"Our multi athletes put in so much time and effort every day behind the scenes," said Head Coach Paris Hilliard. "They practice to compete in five to seven events. To see all of their sacrifices and hard work pay off is truly remarkable! I could not be more delighted for these young men and women."
Coming up next, the Tigers will compete in and host the 2026 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 27 and 28.
