Led by Farfoglia's Decathlon Win, Tigers Perform Well in Last Week Before NCAC Outdoor Championships
Wilmington, OH and Granville, OH - It was another busy weekend for Wittenberg Men's Track & Field as the Tigers competed in their last meet before the North Coast Athletic (NCAC) outdoor championships at Wilmington's Bill Kincaid Invitational, while Nicolas Farfoglia (Manchester, MD / Manchester Valley) and David Martin (Pataskala, OH / Watkins Memorial) competed in the decathlon at Denison, as they hosted the NCAC outdoor combined events.
In the decathlon, Farfoglia took first place with a total score of 6161, outscoring the second place finisher by more than 100 points. Hig best-scoring events were the 100 meters, finishing in 11.29 second for 797 points, pole vault, with a height of 4.25 meters, earning him 688 points, and the 400 meters, which he finished in 52.98 seconds to earn another 682 points. Martin took 11th with 4465 points, with his best events in terms of points score came in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.79 seconds for 693 points and the 400 meters, earning 663 points by finishing in a time of 53.44 seconds.
At the Bill Kincaid Invitational (otherwise known as the Wilmington Invitational) the men's team finished in third out of six collegiate teams with 95.5 points. Wilmington took first overall with169 points and Indiana East barely beat out the Tigers for second with 100 points. The Tigers had a couple first-place finishers throughout the meet. Jhoodley Tilien (Springfield, OH / Springfield) took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 50.22 seconds. In the long jump, Antonio Weaver (Columbus, OH / Independence) took the crown with a leap of 6.63 meters.
Top 5 Finishers (Collegiate Teams)
- Joelon Lyons (Sidney, OH / Sidney) was the fourth collegiate finisher in the 200 meters with a time of 22.48 seconds to earn four points for the team.
- Riley Payne (Hamilton, OH / Trenton Edgewood) was second in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.70 seconds.
- Isaiah Chitapa (Louisville, KY / Evangle Christian) took fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.82 meters.
- In the pole vault, Matthew Keaton (Westerville, OH / North) tied for third place at 4.10 meters.
- In the shot put, Wittenberg had athletes finish third, fourth and fifth. Daniel Walker (Milford, OH / Milford) was third with atoss of 12.93 meters. Parker Sothard (Springfield, OH / Springfield) was fourth at 12.71 meters and in fifth was DaVonte Dungy (Indianapolis, IN / Warren Central) with a toss of 12.35 meters.
- Sothard was second in discus with a throw of 44.53 meters and AJ Sutherly (Marysville, OH / Marysville) took fourth with 41.27 meters.
- Max Green (Centerville, OH / Centerville) took first collegiately in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.90 meters.
- Sutherly was fifth among collegiate finishers in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.23 meters.
Next weekend, the team will travel to Kenyon College to compete in the NCAC Outdoor Championships on May 1 and 2.
