Tigers Shine at Jenna Strong Fall Classic
Wilmington, OH – The Wittenberg University cross country teams delivered a strong showing at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday evening, highlighted by the women's runner-up team finish and several solid performances from the men's squad.
The Wittenberg women earned an outstanding second-place team finish in the 5k race with 102 points, finishing behind only NCAA Division I scholarship program Eastern Michigan. The Tigers placed ahead of numerous other scholarship programs in the final standings, including Mount Vernon Nazarene, which was just two points behind Wittenberg.
Maddi Clark (Mentor, OH / Mentor) paced the Tigers with an impressive third-place finish in a time of 18:43.7, while Emma Hawk (Marion, OH / River Valley) followed close behind in fifth place in 18:48.8. Alex Couch (Howard, OH / Mount Vernon) was 12th with a time of 19:10.6 and Mackenzie Kelley (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) was in 38th, finishing in 20:16.3. Wrapping up the top five runners for the Tigers was Svetlana Daniels (London, OH / Madison Plains), who took 49th in time of 20:30.5.
On the men's side, Wittenberg did not record a team score with four runners competing in the meet, but there were still several solid performances in the 8k race. Adam Veotte (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore) led the Tigers with a 111th place finish in 28:32.8. He was followed by Mason Duncan, with a time of 31:52.8. Taylor Insyxiengmay (Cincinnati, OH / Little Miami) finished with a time of 34:07.4, and Xavier Allen crossed the line with a time of 38:05.2.
The Tigers return to competition for the NCAC Championships November 1.
